New publication Information brochure on freedom of belief
Frank Schwabe: “By championing freedom of belief, I am also strengthening the right to freedom of religion. Wherever people are being persecuted for their religion, we can be fairly sure that people are also being discriminated against for their beliefs.”
People's beliefs indicate how they see and interpret the world, what they regard as important and what informs their actions. All people hold convictions – that is part of being human. The beliefs that guide them may be religious or non-religious. That is why the Universal Declaration of Human Rights recognises the positive and negative freedom of religion or belief.
“I hope this brochure will contribute to debate on these questions, which impact how we live alongside each other. Everyone, whether religious or non-religious, can join together in championing freedom of thought, conscience, religion and belief,” comments Frank Schwabe.
